Privacy notice

Reviewed 19 October 2026 · Information for England and Wales

Your information is sensitive and we handle it with care. This notice explains what we collect and what we do with it.

Who is responsible

The data controller is Non-Molestation Order No Cost, which runs non-molestation.co.uk. Email support@non-molestation.co.uk with any privacy question.

Information we collect

If you use our questionnaire, we collect what you choose to give us, which can include:

  • your name, date of birth, address and safe ways to contact you
  • details about the other person
  • information about children in the family
  • details about your home
  • your account of what has happened – this may touch on health, criminal offences and family life
  • answers to our legal aid questions

Some of this is "special category" data and criminal offence data under UK data protection law.

Why we use it and our lawful basis

We use your information to draft your court papers, contact you safely, check whether you may get legal aid and – only if you agree – refer you to a solicitor or support service.

  • Lawful basis: your consent when you submit the form, and our legitimate interest in providing the service you asked for.
  • Special category and criminal offence data: your explicit consent and, where necessary, processing needed to establish or defend legal claims and to protect people from harm (safeguarding).

Keeping it secure

  • The questionnaire is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.
  • Your answers are stored, encrypted, in our secure case management system, which is hosted in the UK. Only our team can access it, using a password and a code from an authenticator app, and every access is logged.
  • A copy is emailed to our team's secure mailbox so urgent cases are spotted quickly.
  • The form doesn't save your answers on your device as you go.
  • We only contact you in the ways you tell us are safe.

Sharing

We never share anything with the person you need protecting from. We only share your information:

  • with a legal aid solicitor or support service, if you ask us to
  • where the law requires it, or where we believe someone – including a child – is at serious risk of harm. Where it is safe, we will tell you first.

How long we keep it

Up to 6 years after we were last in contact with you, in case it is needed for your case or a complaint. After that it is securely deleted. You can ask us to delete it sooner.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent, by emailing support@non-molestation.co.uk. If you are not happy with how we respond, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113).

Cookies

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If we ever add analytics, we will update this notice and ask for your consent first.
